What are the possible symptoms of an external hemorrhoid?
January 292011
I am 17 years old and I had a little three week hemorrhoid episode when I was 16 years old but the hemorrhoid subsided and my stool patterns went back to normal. But recently, a new development has got me worried. I have some sort of hard spot next to my tail bone. At first I thought it might be some stool pushing on the side of my anus, but now its gotten longer and has started to inflame when I go to the bathroom (number 2) and it gets really hard and irritated. I can feel it and its pretty far from my actual anus. I have heard of two different types of hemorrhoids – external and internal – maybe this is an external hemorrhoid (because it doesnt even hurt half as much as the other one did)? I’m not sure, but im going to go to my doctor in 3 weeks, (I have an appointment) but I would like to know more information about it and how to treat it before then. Any help?

Hemorrhoids affect both men and women. It’s estimated that between 70 % and 80 % of Americans will experience hemorrhoids at least once in their life. Because no one is entirely sure what causes hemorrhoids, it is very difficult to prevent and treat them. Many people suffer from hemorrhoids in silence because they are embarrassed to go to the doctor or because they don’t know enough information about hemorrhoids to understand that hemorrhoids treatments may be necessary.
